In brief

US Senator Marco Rubio (pictured, main image) has introduced bipartisan legislation that seeks to ban TikTok.

The Averting the National Threat of International Surveilleance, Oppressive Censorship and Influence, and Algorithmic Learning by the Chinese Communist Party ACT (ANTI-SOCIAL CCP Act) seeks to “protect Americans by blocking and prohibiting all transactions from any social media company in, or under the influence of, China, Russia, and several other foreign countries of concern”.

US Representatives Mike Gallagher (Republican) and Raja Krishnamoorthi (Democrat) have introduced companion legislation in the House of Representatives.

TikTok has been called a national security threat by various US officials.
