World Cup: Wales’ opening match nets more viewers than England

Wales’ first World Cup match against the USA netted an average 7.71 million viewers.

The match, broadcast on ITV1 yesterday, had a viewing peak of 11.41 million at 8.55pm, gaining a 42.5% share of the timeslot.

The BBC broadcast of England’s opening match against Iran at 1pm attracted an average of 5.83 million viewers and a 63.1% share of viewing during the timeslot. Viewing peaked on BBC One at 7.95 million viewers at 3.10pm.

The next England match is against the USA at 7pm on 25 November and will be shown on ITV, while Wales’ match with IRan is broadcast on the same day at 10am by BBC One.

Overnight viewing figures do not include catch-up or streaming.
