Viewers Go Bonkers For Benidorm

Benidorm ITV1 had a good night last night, with the new comedy dramas Benidorm and Bonkers, together with old favourites Emmerdale and The Bill, meaning the channel rarely saw less than 5 million adult viewers during peak time.

Bonkers, starring Liza Tarbuck, didn’t quite make 5 million for its first episode, but it was up against the last instalment of BBC1’s drama Five Days, which ended on an average 5.5 million across the episode.

Heavily promoted Benidorm began with 5.3 million adult viewers, although this dipped during the second half to 4.8 million.

Emmerdale‘s hour long edition clashed with EastEnders and safely beat it in the ratings. Emmerdale achieved an average of 7.3 million adults while EastEnders only managed 5.8 million on average.

Meanwhile The Bill topped off the evening by outperforming BBC1’s Waterloo Road, peaking at 5.9 million, while BBC1’s drama achieved a respectable 4.1 million.
