Sony Could Launch Online Video Player Through PlayStation3

Ps3 Reports have suggested that electronics giant Sony is working on the launch of an online video service through gaming console PlayStaton3.

The company has apparently been in talks with several Hollywood studios in recent weeks and could launch the video service within months.

Sony is attempting to capitalise on the worldwide presence of its PS3 console. It has sold more than four million units in the US and nine million units worldwide, according to estimates.

Should Sony launch such a service, it would position the company to compete with the growing number of devices, such as AppleTV (see Apple TV To Launch) and Microsoft’s Xbox 360 console (see BT Vision And Microsoft In Xbox 360 Partnership), which are able to download video from the internet.

Microsoft’s Xbox Live service has around 10 million subscribers, who are able to download around 4,800 hours of video of shows.
