Shazam dealing with ten million tags per day

Shazam is securing more than two million new fans per week and ten million tags per days, according to Sam Woods, account director at Shazam, speaking at yesterday’s Future of TV Advertising conference in London.

Although Shazam was originally used for identifying music tracks, it discovered that 85% of Shazam users were already using it for TV content, long before “Shazam for TV” was even thought of.

In 2010 in the US, whole programmes started to become Shazam-enabled on the Syfy channel, with users able to find out more information on plots, characters, actors, music etc all with one tap of the Shazam app.

As of today, 96% of all US TV programming is Shazam-enabled.

However the app is still used for music identification, with Woods stating that Shazam is responsible for $300m of revenue to iTunes each year.
