Press Bosses To See Benefits Of Mobile Services

Newspaper executives are to get an insight into how lucrative mobile services can be on a two-day study trip organised by the World Association of Newspapers (WAN).

The trip to Oslo on 1 and 2 September will feature case studies of profitable news and information services from around the world, an explanation of how newspapers can benefit from telecommunication developments, and an examination of business models for increasing audiences and revenues.

The event is being hosted by Telenor, the leading fixed line and mobile operator in Norway and one of Europe’s leading telecommunications companies. The company has a presence in thirty different countries and realised a turnover of â‚Ź5.7 billion in 2002.

Norway is recognised by the International Telecommunication Union as one of the most advanced wireless markets in the world (see ITU Maps Out The Future Of The Mobile Internet). Mobile penetration is high and 65% of Telenor customers use SMS on a monthly basis. In addition, around one in ten Norwegian mobile users now have an MMS handset.
