OPEN Media becomes B-Corp certified media owner
OPEN Media has become B-Corp certified.

OPEN Media has become B-Corp certified in a claimed UK-first for outdoor media owners.

The company began the B-Corp application process in May 2021. Since then, it has enacted several environmental practices including powering down its OPEN Connect sites between 12pm and 6am daily and cutting its emissions by 24% since last Earth Day in April 2022.

A new strategy, entitled “People, Place, Planet”, was put in place last year to “make a positive impact” across its entire business.

Throughout this process OPEN claims to have offset more than 97 tonnes of carbon, planted 6,110 trees and supported 11 environmental projects from wind power to rainforest protection around the world.

B-Corporations, or B-Corps, meet high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability. Companies that apply are ranked with a score out of 100, with only those who score 80 points or higher gaining the accompanying accreditation.

OPEN Media scored 84.2 points. Only 50% of businesses that apply for this status pass the threshold to become certified, and average businesses score 50.9 points.
