One fifth of Britain to watch Olympics online
A YouGov survey published by Interxion has revealed that around 20% will watch the Olympics online, just under a third of those who intend to view the Games on a more traditional TV platform.
Surveying 2,000 UK citizens aged 18-years-old and over, 65% said they would be watching sport on TV while 10% are looking to use public screens.
Of the “online number”, 9% look set to stream the action on a home PC, while 7% and 3% have said they will be viewing the Olympics on laptops and tablet devices respectively.
The survey also asked respondents what their main priorities for online streaming are – 21% pointed to maintaining a consisent internet connection, 19% picked out sound and picture quality while 15% identified connection speed as most important.
Discussing the result, Greg McCulloch, UK managing director of Interxion said: “It is clear that significantly more content from sport this summer will be consumed online than ever before, with online becoming a genuine alternative to sitting in front of the television.
“The key to delivering a great sports experience to a digital audience will be low-latency delivery of the real-time content.”
