Media Rocks: industry’s musicians wanted for charity contest

Rock bands consisting of media industry professionals are being asked to take part in a new charity event called Media Rocks.

Competing bands will perform a handful of covers, with a panel of judges deciding the winner of the evening. Revenues from ticket sales will go toward charities chosen by the performing bands.

The event will take place at the 100 Club on Oxford Street in London on the evening of 13 September.

Omnicom Media Group’s head of commercial James Ullman is leading the effort. Describing it as a spin-off of the global charitable Law Rocks events, which he has competed in over the years, Ullman told The Media Leader he thought it would be a good idea to develop the event for the media industry as well, with the blessing of the Law Rocks organisers.

“The vision for the event is to put on a night of rock n roll with talent from the media industry all in the hope of raising a load of money for charity,” said Ullman. “Essentially, let’s have a lot of fun and do something for good causes.”

Ullman is currently in the process of recruiting bands, though he has had “some positive noises from a couple of agencies and a media owner”. Bands seeking to sign up can contact Ullman directly via email or LinkedIn.
