JCDecaux sees Q1 decline in UK street furniture and billboard revenues

JCDecaux has revealed that UK street furniture and billboard revenues declined in the first quarter of 2009.

Chief executive of JCDecaux, Jean-Charles Decaux, predicted a group-wide revenue decline of 15% for the first half of 2009, as the company posted a revenue decline of 11.9% in Q1.

Across the group, the company’s street furniture revenue dipped by 16.8%, with most developed markets recording organic revenue declines.

Worldwide billboard revenue was down by 18.7% in Q1. Excluding acquisitions and the impact of foreign exchange, they fell 16.2%, due to weaker demand and fiercer competition in several markets.

First quarter revenue was strongly impacted by the significant volume and price pressure brought about by advertisers reducing ad spend in the economic downturn, said Decaux.
