Hi-Tech Business Publishing Market Contracts Further

The decline in the US business information technology market continued during April with advertising page volumes down by 21.3% year on year, according to new figures from United Business Media (UBM).

The fall has been partly attributed to the fact that weekly magazines published just four times in April 2003 instead of five times in the corresponding month last year. UBM’s CMP Media division saw volumes drop by 18.6% although its share of the market is now 30.2%, up from 19.2% in April 2002.

In the twelve months to April, the business information technology sector decreased by 16.6%, with CMP’s hi-tech titles showing a 12.5% slide. Analysis of the rolling twelve month period shows that the overall market declined by 23.0%, while volumes at CMP were down by 15.0% year on year.
