DMG Media appoints Manfred as global head of video

DMG Media has appointed Tony Manfred as global head of video, a new position aimed at improving the publisher’s video footprint.

Manfred joins DMG from Insider, where he worked for 12 years beginning as a sports reporter before eventually becoming head of video in 2018.

The hire appears to be part of DMGT’s strategy to aggressively move into video and audio production. In a July interview with The Media Leader, Dominic Williams, the chief revenue officer for Mail Metro Media (the commercial arm of the publisher), revealed he wanted the company “to be known for video [and] be known for podcasts.”

Earlier this year, the company hired Guy Edmunds, an ad sales careerist who had previously spent 20 years at The Guardian, to lead in a newly-created role as media director of video & podcast.

Manfred will start on 2 October and be based in DMG’s New York City office.

DMG Media is a subsidiary of Daily Mail and General Trust (DMGT) and publishes the Daily MailMail on Sunday, MailOnline, and Metro.
