There probably isn’t anything much more annoying that having the bright glare of a mobile screen interrupt a trip to the cinema, but Disney is asking children to flout The Rules for the re-release of The Little Mermaid.

For ‘Second Screen Live,’ Disney has created an app which will allow viewers to interact with the aquatic classic in select US cinemas later this month.

According to the app’s trailer, below, viewers will be able to play games, compete with fellow audience members and sing along with the film.

Disney has offered second screen technology before, but this is the first time it is to be used in cinemas. The Magic of Oz The Great and Powerful: Second Screen and Disney Second Screen: Bambi Edition both allow viewers to use an iPad to interact with home viewings.

The Little Mermaid: Second Screen Live is available in the App store for free download.
