Inflation remained unchanged at 1.3% in May. The Retail Price Index for last month was 149.1, taking 1985 as the base rate. This is an increase of 1.3% on May 1992 and an increase of 0.4% on April 1993.
Independent Local Radio group GWR has announced profits for the six month period to March up 17.9% to £4.08m, an increase of £316,000. Shares in Anglia Television rose by 12p to 329p yesterday, amid fears that it could be the most vulnerable of the television companies should the rules on takeover bids be relaxed. By 1pm today the shares had risen another 1p.
Granada Television has revealed profits of £21m for the 6-months to March 27, an increase of 19% on last year. The Granada Group as a whole recorded profits of £68.1m, up by 28% on 1992.
The Saatchi & Saatchi £73m rights issue has had a 92% take-up. The money raised will be used in a variety of ways. £36.5m will go towards reducing bank debt, £19m will buy minority stakes in European advertising subsidiaries, £10.5m will be used to strengthen media buying and £7m will be used for new technology.
