In brief

BuzzFeed will use ChatGPT creator OpenAI’s publicly available application programming interface to create personalised content and quizzes.

In a staff-circulated memo obtained by The Wall Street Journal, BuzzFeed CEO Jonah Peretti said he expects AI to assist the creative process, while humans provide “cultural currency” and “inspired prompts.”

Separately, The Journal revealed that Meta is paying BuzzFeed approximately $10m to help attract more creators to Facebook and Instagram.

The digital outlet laid of 12% of its staff last month following a volatile first year as a public company.
