Another podcast exec exits Spotify

Max Cutler, head of talk creator content and partnerships at Spotify, is leaving the business.

Cutler has been with the audio streaming company for nearly four years, ever since Spotify bought his podcast studio Parcast which produces scripted podcasts across true crime, history, mystery, and fiction. He founded the studio in 2016 and Spotify bought it in 2019 for $55m.

A Spotify spokesperson said Cutler has chosen to leave the company to “return to his entrepreneurial roots” and his last day will be 1 May.

Spotify’s podcast team will be restructured. Bill Simmons will now report to Sahar Elhabashi, Spotify’s head of podcast business.

Simmons will continue to lead The Ringer, and partner with Lee Brown, VP, global head of ads business & platform at Spotify, on podcast monetization across the portfolio.

Julie McNamara will be responsible for licensed exclusives, while Bryan Thoensen will be in charge of content partnerships for third party creators.

This comes less than a month after the exit of Dawn Ostroff, Spotify’s chief content and advertising business officer, who was in charge, amongst other things, of the podcast acquisitions and investment, and spearheaded its exclusive and original podcasts strategy.
