At last year’s Future of TV Advertising Global event, journalist Omid Scobie spoke to Adwanted Events and Publishing managing director Steve Scaffardi about media’s role in swaying public opinion, particularly through the lens of the Royal Family.
A translation of Scobie’s book Endgame caused controversy this week for naming two allegedly “racist” members of the Royal family.
In conversation with Scaffardi last year, Scobie discussed the debate around media coverage of Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
As the author of Harry and Meghan’s official biography, Finding Freedom, Scobie spent time in their company on several occasions and witnessed first-hand the impact the coverage has had on the Sussex’s — especially Meghan Markle.
Speaking from both a professional level as a journalist, and from a personal view as a man from mixed heritage, he expressed strong views on the way the media portray multi-ethnic communities and individuals, and in this interview, he discussed his view on how the narrative needs to change.
This year’s Future of TV Advertising Global conference takes place 5th and 6th December in London.
