Revenue Total terrestrial revenue (including GMTV) rose by 14.3% year on year, according to agency estimates. Of this, ITV’s revenue rose 15.4%; Channel 4’s grew by 9.8% and Channel 5 saw its revenue rise by 17.6%.

Revenue at breakfast franchise GMTV grew by 13.6% and total satellite rose 33.5% in a year on year analysis.

Amongst the ITV franchises, London’s Carlton took the largest slice of revenue last month, with a 17.3% share, a 2.8% increase on May 1999. Carlton’s Central franchise was a close second with a 16.5% slice despite taking a 0.8% fall in a year on year analysis.

Commercial Impacts May was a bad month for ITV in terms of commercial impacts; the network saw decreases across all audience categories. The Housewives with Children category was hit the hardest, falling 9.4% in a year on year analysis. There were increases across the remaining networks however, with satellite channels seeing the greatest increases in audience impacts, particularly in the Housewives with Children category, which climbed almost 30%.

Costs Per Thousand Costs per thousand rose across most audience categories during May with the most dramatic increases found on the ITV network. Here the Housewives with Children category rose 27.5% and ABC1 Adults was up 24.3%. Channel 4 saw smaller increases in costs across most categories with the exception of ABC1 Adults which fell back 0.2%. Channel 5 saw significant increases across most of its audience categories with the exception of Men, which became 5.7% cheaper on the channel.
