Tesco moving into digital through blinkbox technology

Tesco’s on-demand subsidiary blinkbox have announced a new feature to their service, where customers who purchase DVD or Blu-ray’s in-store will also own and be able to watch the film online through blinkbox.

The new service will be exclusively available to customers enrolled in the Tesco Clubcard loyalty scheme.

From today, (December 2nd) customers who buy any of the 25 eligible titles in-store or online with their Tesco Clubcard can watch the film through blinkbox on several devices such as, PC, Mac, PS3, LG and Samsung Smart TV, and soon on Xbox 360 and iPad.

Today also marks the release of the new Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows-Part 2 film, which is eligible for blinkbox viewing. Other titles available include The Hangover 2, The Smurfs and Jeremy Clarkson: Powered Up.

Richard Brasher, CEO, Tesco UK commented on how services such as blinkbox are starting a digital revolution in the way content is consumed, “starting with the magic of Harry Potter, there will be many more great titles to follow for customers to enjoy online wherever and whenever they like”.
