Read all about it: 2nd Sunday Sun sells 2.7m

The Sun Sunday

The second Sunday edition of The Sun sold in the region of 2.7 million copies – down just over 17% on the launch issue last week.

On Saturday evening Rupert Murdoch tweeted: “What will second Sunday edition of Sun sell? My guess down fifteen per cent would be a great result” – to his 196,000 followers, up 7,000 followers on last week. Obviously he has the key insight as the print run will be the main determining factor in forecasting the sale but he was also managing expectations as the first sale level was never going to be maintained.

The Trinity Mirror nationals suffered falls versus last week but they had both reverted back to their £1 cover prices in most regions. It is estimated the Sunday Mirror sold 1.15 million – down 11% – and The People 464,000 – down around 17% on last week. The Daily Star Sunday maintained its cover price reduction at 50p to match The Sun and is thought to have only lost a couple of percentage points in sale.
