Pearl & Dean rising star’s warning: ‘Media is losing amazing talent!’
The Year Ahead 2024

The “exodus” of talent from media and advertising is one of the industry’s most pressing challenges, according to a leading cinema executive and rising star in media.

Charlene Williams, group senior operations and business analyst at Pearl & Dean Group, warned that the industry needs to focus on retaining talent in 2024 as opposed to focusing on “buzzwords”.

Speaking to The Media Leader at the publication’s The Year Ahead 2024 event, Williams said: “I would love to see the talent exodus that’s happening right now dramatically decrease.

“We’re losing some amazing talent in this industry. As an industry, we’ve focused on the buzzword, and we’ll run with it.”

Williams is also an inaugural member of The Media Leader Future 100 Club for the next generation of leaders. Last week, a survey of this group listed diversity and talent retention as the biggest challenges for the industry in 2024.

The Year Ahead, hosted by The Media Leader and Adwanted Events, is an annual get-together for UK media and advertising’s most influential people.

Videos of the major panels and debates from The Year Ahead 2024 are now available on Adwanted UK’s YouTube channel.
