NRS Round-Up – August 1999

The latest set of readership figures released by the National Readership Survey (NRS) this week show that there has been a year on year decline in the national newspaper market for the six months to August 1999. The sector has dropped over two million readers, or 2.9% during this period.

The two Express papers continue to suffer heavy losses, with the Sunday Express dropping 430,000 (14.9%) readers year on year. Mid-market rivals, the Daily Mail and Mail On Sunday continue to turn healthy-looking figures in this survey.

Elsewhere, readers deserted the Independent and Independent On Sunday and every popular tabloid saw readership decline.
