A new deal between Time Warner’s film studio and Netflix and Blockbuster will mean customers signed up to the services will have to wait 56 days for films after the DVDs first go on sale, instead of 28 days.

The new deal, which is a bid to boost DVD sales, is expected to be announced at this week’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

Warner Bros will also hold back from granting additional digital rights to the studios – it will simply offer them the ability to buy DVDs in bulk, at a significant discount to the retail price.

The announcement is reportedly linked to Warner Bros push for Ultraviolet, an industry consortium that will allow viewers to watch films they have purchased on multiple devices, in multiple formats.
