Nemo Is Box Office Catch Of The Day In October

The success of Disney’s aquatic animation, Finding Nemo, helped UK cinema admissions to reach 17.3 million in October, according to the Cinema Advertising Association.

October cinema admissions averaged 4 million a week, which represents a 29% year on year increase on the same period last year. Finding Nemo was the most successful film of the month, taking £28.7 million. The film is now the one of the biggest films of 2003.

The second biggest film of the month was Bad Boys II, starring Will Smith, which took £8.1 million in October.

The third biggest film of the month, was the much anticipated, stylish blood bath that was Kill Bill Volume One, the latest release from cult director Quentin Tarantino. The film took £7.8 million in October and Volume Two is set to be released in February.

Commenting on this month’s figures, Christine Costello, vice president of the CAA, said: “October was a terrific month for cinema, with a return to impressive year-on-year increases in admissions. This was down to the unprecedented success of Finding Nemo and a host of other eagerly awaited films such as Tarantino’s Kill Bill and the independently produced Cabin Fever.”

She continued: “The best is yet to come – Love Actually, Matrix Revolutions and Lord Of The Rings – The Return Of The King are guaranteed to provide a blockbusting finale to the year.”
