NBC Universal signs Xbox 360 movie deal

Xbox Logo Microsoft has signed a deal with NBC Universal to expand the film hosting service on its XBox 360 games console.

The deal will enable Xbox users to download a choice of 30 Universal movies and watch them in high-definition.

Universal follows Paramount Pictures and Warner Bros in agreeing Xbox movie deals with Microsoft.

Microsoft has also announced plans to launch an interactive television quiz show which will see users compete against each other to win real prizes.

The announcements signal the next part of Microsoft’s plan to broaden the appeal of the console.

Neil Thompson, head of Xbox UK, told Brand Republic: “We are constantly developing our entertainment services. Of course we are still committed to the core and very active gaming market.

“However, we have to look at other ways to evolve, connect and broaden our appeal. What we are looking to provide is a ubiquitous service whereby people can satisfy a range of needs through their Xbox.”
