National Newspaper NRS Round-Up – May 2000

The latest data from the National Readership Survey (NRS) shows a continuing decline in readership figures, with a year on year decrease of 5.3% across the whole sector. Almost all national daily and Sunday titles recorded a drop in readership over the six month period to the end of May 2000.

The most significant falls came from the Sunday People, which lost 646,000 readers – a 15% tumble – and the Independent on Sunday, which fell by 12%.

The only exceptions to the downward trend were the Express (up 2.1%), Sunday Express (up 0.6%) and the Daily Mail, which increased by 1.6%.
