Music Magazines’ Circulations Continue To Fall

Year on year comparisons from the latest figures from the Audit Bureau of Circulation (ABC) show that sales in the music magazine market continued to fall with an overall drop in sales of 13%. Only Ministry and Uncut made significant gains up by 31.1% and 23.4%. The greatest losses were suffered by Smash Hits which fell by almost 40%, its monthly circulation dropping to 230,764.

The news reflected Emap’s poor performance overall in the latest results. Of its major titles in this sector only Uncut made a significant rise with sales up by almost 8,500.

IPC Magazines’ Melody Maker, which is due for a redesign to become an A4 glossy, dropped by almost 15% or 6,000 copies. NME, IPC’s other weekly music inkie, also fell slightly by 1,600 copies.
