JCDecaux UK H1 organic growth surges to 30%

JCDecaux’s UK business posted €195.1m adjusted revenue for H1. This equated to 29.8% organic growth compared with H1 2023.

Dallas Wiles, co-CEO of JCDecaux UK, called the results “great news for the UK” and told The Media Leader that this was driven by double-digit growth across street furniture, billboard and transport, showing that airport and rail audiences, as well as advertisers, had returned.

He added: “In a year that includes major sporting events such as the Olympics, OOH’s growth continues to be driven by digital with new capabilities including programmatic — with programmatic growth across the group increasing by 61.8%.

“As today’s AA/Warc figures for Q1 show, the highest growth was OOH, ahead of search and online — another proof point that OOH is now the big-reach medium that brands need and that the two-screen future of OOH and online has now arrived.”

Group performance

Across the group, JCDecaux posted 13.4% adjusted organic revenue growth in H1 to €1.81bn — above expectations.

Organic revenue growth for Q2 was 15.4%, up from 11% in Q1.

The main drivers were “a strong performance” of digital revenue and double-digit growth in all activities: street furniture (10.6%), transport (18.8%) and billboard (10.4%).

Digital OOH grew 27.8% on an organic basis over the first six months of the year and accounted for 36.8% of total group revenue. This is up from 32.7% for the same period in 2023.

Meanwhile, programmatic advertising revenue through JCDecaux’s supply-side platform Viooh grew by 61.8% in H1 to reach 9% of digital revenue (or €59.7m).

The top 10 advertising categories, led by FMCG and technology, media and telecoms, experienced at least mid-single-digital growth, with some sectors growing by double digits.

JCDecaux has forecast Q3 organic growth to be around 10%, thanks to continued strong digital revenue growth across all business segments, while it is also anticipating a positive impact from the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
