ITV Bid To Increase Teenage Viewers

ITV has announced a new soap series for teenagers as part of the 40th anniversary of Children’s ITV this autumn. Called Island, the new series is billed as Britain’s answer to Home and Away.

Produced for the network by Channel TV, the series follows 7 young people who leave home to find work on the island of Jersey for the summer. It will be transmitted in spring next year, as part of ITV’s initiative to find new ideas which will appeal to the teenage audience.

Other new programmes for CITV this autumn include Santo Bugito, the latest cartoon from the creator of The Simpsons and Rugrats; TIGS is set in the cybercafe of the ’90s and is British television’s first live interactive computer game show; there is a new sci-fi drama adventure series called Delta Wave from the creators of The Tomorrow People and there are premieres for Spielberg’s latest animated comedies Freakazoid! and Pinky and the Brain.
