HBO partners with Snap to bring dragons to life

In the latest augmented reality marketing campaign via Snapchat, HBO Max is partnering with the social media and tech company to bring dragons from HBO’s upcoming Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon to life around the world.

The Landmarker AR experiences will see dragons take over famous landmarks. For the House of the Dragon premiere, the following locations will be included, with development done by Creators on the platform:

  • Los Angeles: Venice Beach Grand Canals
  • Rio De Janeiro: Princess Isabel Statue
  • London: Tower Bridge
  • Chennai: Sankagiri Fort
  • Mumbai: CST Station (IE Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus)

 

Snapchat is promising around 15 more Landmarker experiences in 10 other countries, which will be released as the series progresses.

Snap is also releasing a House of the Dragon themed Lens that turns you into a fire-breathing dragon in selfie mode (pictured, main)and which “leverages sky segmentation technology” to unleash flying dragons in worldview mode.

House of the Dragon premieres on Sunday. In advance of the debut, Warner Bros. Discovery has begun offering 30% off one-year subscriptions to HBO Max.
