Forgan Defends BBC Radio

Managing director of BBC network radio, Liz Forgan, spoke on Radio 2 last night about the future of the Corporation’s five national stations. Forgan believes that all the radio stations will remain in place after the BBC’s charter is renewed in 1996, following doubts over the future of Radios 1 and 2.

Commenting on plans to restrict Radio 4 to a longwave frequency the network director claimed that the station, “the heart and soul of network radio”,would be impoverished without an FM wavelength.

The BBC, meanwhile, is denying allegations from commercial stations of breach of licence by indirectly offering promotional deals to record companies, hence introducing ‘back door’ advertising
