Emap Performance Appoints Rich As New Managing Director

Emap Performance has appointed Marcus Rich, formerly managing director of FHM Worldwide, to the newly created position of managing director.

Rich will take responsibility for Emap’s portfolio of rock, pop and dance music magazines, which include Smash Hits, Kerrang! and Q. He will also oversee Performance Television and Performance Interactive.

The new role will see Rich work alongside Emap Performance group managing director, Dee Ford. He will report to chief executive, Tim Schoonmaker, who said the appointment would help promote growth across the business.

He added: “With the Communications Act, all things digital and the most interesting environment for the music business in 50 years, there will be plenty of action for Marcus from day one.”

Rich is considered to be one of Emap’s most valuable assets, having been publishing director of Emap Metro in the 1990s, when he was responsible for a variety of titles, including Smash Hits. He also had stints as managing director of Emap Australia and General Manager of the Emap Peterson men’s and teen magazines in New York.

Paul Keenan, chief executive Emap Consumer Media, added: “Hearty congratulations and best wishes go to Marcus on his move to Emap Performance. He leaves FHM in terrific shape having been involved with it on three continents throughout the 10 magnificent years it has enjoyed since we reinvented it in 1994.”

Rich will take up his new position in early January 2004 and the search for a new managing director of FHM Worldwide will begin immediately.

Emap’s flagship music title Q recently launched a special mini-magazine for sale in Virgin Megastores. The title will have a cover price of £3.99 and will feature a CD of sampler showcases from a variety of current album releases (see Emap Launches New Mini Version Of Q Magazine).
