BBC Taken To Task By Council

The BBC has been criticised by the Broadcasting Standards Council for a number of its programmes which fell short of the acceptance barrier, in the eyes of the council.

The final episode of Casualty shown recently (which attracted 17 million viewers) was excessively violent, according to the report. The highly successful One Foot in the Grave (average weekly audience of 17.5m) was also criticised for its portrayal of the ill treatment of elderly people.

The council has stipulated to the BBC that the report is published in a national newspaper.
