It’s been a hectic couple of years for anyone working in media, but it looks like there’s some light finally on the horizon.

According to a recent Salary Survey, creative industries are going to grow by over 26% by 2025, with an additional 300,000 roles being created. This means a huge demand for skilled workers and a shift from an employer-driven market to an employee-driven one.

Some employers are already starting to address remuneration and benefits packages to attract and retain talent. Data from the survey suggests that there has been an average increase of 10.2% for permanent salaries and 7.1% for freelancer day rates.

Taking a look at the Marketing and PR side of the industry shows, in contrast to last year, the marketing generalist is in high demand as SMEs and start-ups rebuild their marketing and communications function. Those with skillsets that extend to design and digital continue to be favoured.

In PR, roles have expanded to cover much more than media relations, reflecting the rapidly evolving media landscape for the likes of influencer brands and talent management.

According to the survey, when it comes to permanent marketing, PR and Comms roles, the dial is moving in the right direction for more junior and entry-level roles, indicating it’s a good time to join the industry.

If your own remuneration doesn’t quite measure up and negotiating a better deal isn’t on the cards, perhaps it’s time to explore your options.
