4A’s CEO Marla Kaplowitz to step down in 2025

The American Association of Advertising Agencies (4A’s) announced that its CEO, Marla Kaplowitz, will be stepping down from her role on May 30, 2025. A search for her successor will commence immediately.

Reshaped the 4A’s role within the advertising industry

Kaplowitz, who has led the organization for nearly eight years, will depart after making significant strides in reshaping the 4A’s role within the advertising industry. Under her leadership, the association has focused on critical issues such as diversity and inclusion, compensation models, pitching costs, and navigating the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Marla has been an exceptional leader for the 4A’s,” said Abbey Klaassen, Chair of the 4A’s board and CEO of dentsu Creative U.S. “Her dedication to our members and her ability to drive positive change have been instrumental to the organization’s success.”

‘Member satisfaction saw a nearly 700% improvement’

During her tenure, Kaplowitz oversaw numerous initiatives, including the creation of the annual Member Value Report, partnerships with the Association of National Advertisers (ANA), and the expansion of the 4A’s Foundation to include programs like MAIP (Multicultural Advertising Intern Program) and high school initiatives. Additionally, she spearheaded the formation of the Advertiser Protection Bureau to address brand safety and suitability concerns. Kaplowitz’s impact on member satisfaction is evident in the organization’s Net Promoter Score (NPS), which increased from 21 to 42 under her leadership. Overall member satisfaction also saw a nearly 700% improvement.

“I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished at the 4A’s,” said Kaplowitz. “The opportunity to serve our members and drive positive change in the industry has been a privilege. I am excited to pursue new challenges and opportunities in the next phase of my career.”

‘Shape the future of the advertising industry’

After leaving the 4A’s, Kaplowitz plans to focus on advisory work and expand her involvement in corporate boards. She currently serves on the board of public company Penn Entertainment and holds positions on several industry boards, including BBB National Programs, VoxComm, and the Ad Council.

The 4A’s Board of Directors and its Search Committee will now embark on a comprehensive search to identify a new CEO who can build upon Kaplowitz’s accomplishments and lead the organization into the future.

“The next CEO will have the opportunity to shape the future of the advertising industry,” said Klaassen. “We are confident that we will find a strong leader who can continue to deliver value to our members and address the evolving challenges and opportunities facing our industry.”
