UK OOH media owners agree on single tribute to Queen

UK outdoor media owners have updated their tributes to the Queen to reflect “a single, common message”.

The Media Leader understands this is the approved official image from Buckingham Palace and the Cabinet Office which has been sent to all UK out-of-home (OOH) media owners.

Ocean Outdoor, JCDecaux, Clear Channel and Global confirmed they have been briefed so their screens will carry the same black and white image and message (pictured, main image).

A spokesperson for Ocean Outdoor has confirmed all commercials will be suspended until midnight on Piccadilly Lights in London and 6am tomorrow on all other OOH screens.

Clear Channel confirmed the below images were live at the 72-metre-long Storm Cromination site and other screens around the country.

A Clear Channel spokesperson told The Media Leader: “As a sign of respect for the passing of Her Majesty The Queen, all Clear Channel UK digital displays were blacked out last night and will be displaying a commemorative message until 6am on Saturday 10 September in unity with other Out of Home media owners. As an industry, we deemed it important to use our public screens in an appropriate and thoughtful way during a time like this.”

The Media Leader understands spokespeople from the Palace and the Cabinet Office met with the media companies to offer images of the Queen free of charge to replace any advertising spaces they had.

This comes as many media owners and advertisers paused commercials across multiple channels and paid tribute today to mourn the passing of the UK’s longest-serving monarch.
