The Crown attracts 1.1m viewers on S5 debut
In brief

More than one million people watched at least one episode of Series Five of Netflix’s The Crown on TV sets on Wednesday.

The entire season of 10 episodes was released on Wednesday at 8am GMT, and BARB overnight figures suggest 666,000 people continued watching episode two and 300,000 for episode three.

This comes after Netflix joined BARB as a subscriber this month. The UK’s television audience measurement service has reported programme audiences for subscription video-on-demand services (SVOD) including Disney+ and Netflix, and service-level viewing of video-sharing platforms like TikTok and YouTube, since November 2021.

On the same night, 7.9 million people watched ITV’s I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here.

“The last stat about 'I am a Celeb' implies that the 'Crown may be slipping'. Perhaps a bit more detail on the profile of its audience by age and class might have helped.”
