Meta to ‘shut down’ Substack competitor Bulletin
In brief

Meta is winding down its Substack competitor Bulletin, according to reports.

The newsletter subscription service was launched by Facebook, now Meta, in June 2021 as a set of publishing and subscription tools to support writers in the US.

According to a report by The New York Times, writers such as journalist Malcolm Gladwell and sports commentator Erin Andrews, who were among those originally contracted to write newsletters on the platform, will still have their contracts fulfilled in full.

Newsletters saw a boom in popularity during the pandemic which has since levelled off; Substack itself cut 14% of its staff in June after the company was unable to secure a new round of financing.
