Indiana files lawsuits against TikTok over security and child safety
In brief

Indiana filed two lawsuits against TikTok, alleging the company deceived users about China’s access to US user data, and misleadingly served minors mature content.

It is the first US state to sue the company, and follows increased pressure from legislators to ban the service across the country. Yesterday, Texas Governor Greg Abbott ordered state agencies to ban the app from government-issued devices. The US Federal Communications Commissioner has also called for the app’s removal from US app stores over national security concerns.

TikTok, which is facing a £27m fine over similar concerns in the UK, is owned by Chinese company Bytedance.
