First Issue Review: Total Film Magazine

First Issue Review: Total Film Magazine

Future Publishing has just released its first film related title, Total Film Magazine. Total Film went on sale at a special introductory price of £1. Published monthly, the normal price will be £2.50.

Matt Bielby, the Editor, sets the scene for the title in his opening note, “You’re holding up a magazine that’s right up your (steeply inclined for better car chases) street.” Yes, Total Film, is clearly targeting itself at the lads’ lifestyle.

Snappy, to the point copy is intermingled with strong photography and bold typeface to create informative, entertaining and visually appealing features. In this issue there are six full pages given over to Russ Meyer, the Tzar of “Titty Boom” and a Star Wars feature. This mag is definitely tuned into the man behaving badly’s way of thinking. One off articles are backed up with Trailer Park previews promising to deliver the full story behind every top, mainstream, motion picture. There is regular on-set news and honest criticisms written by action adventure film fanatics.

With 122 full colour pages, including 23 pages of advertising, Total Film, looks set to give Emap’s new monthly cinema title, Neon a run for its money. Time will tell whether there is room for two very similar film magazines in the lads’ culture.
