‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ notches £11.2m opening weekend

James Cameron’s blockbuster sequel, Avatar: The Way of Water, earned £11.2m in its opening weekend in the UK according to data from Comscore.
It is the sixth-largest opening weekend in the UK in 2022 behind superhero films Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, The Batman, and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and action films Jurassic World: Dominion and Top Gun: Maverick.
When including previews Avatar moves to seventh, also behind Marvel’s Thor: Love and Thunder.
Globally, the film made $434.5m this weekend, including $134m in the US. That is behind expectations; Disney had forecast between $135m-$150m in the US.
